My First Time with Ony

Soooo….I’m a bit behind here but I have never really had the urge to head into Ony’s Lair.  The guild put together a group to run tonight.  After three wipes we finally got her.  Nothing good as far as loot but it was definitely a learning experience.  And seeing 8k DPS on the charts doesn’t hurt my confidence either (Thanks to phase 2 for that).

For a Rogue there’s not much to this fight.  PHASE 1 – Tank and spank but stay on the side of Ony to avoid tail and talon swipe.  at 60% health you begin PHASE 2 – First Fan of Knives the group of whelps that come out.  Redirect aggro using Tricks of the Trade.  Also your are watching for “Deep Breath” and you must immediately move to a wall in her lair.  After first phase of whelps switch to Guardian Adds (move out of range of guardians during blast nova) until 40% health and then begins PHASE 3 – Another tank and spank with some fears thrown in.  It’s really nothing when everyone pays attention and does their job.

It was short and fun and now that I’ve got an idea of how the fight goes I’m not as worried about Puggin it for 25man.

Ooo! Piece of Candy…Mutilate Deeps Revisited

So I hadn’t posted about this since I picked it up but I got my Black Night’s Rondel a couple of weeks ago but I hadn’t bothered heading for the tacklin dummies to test out my Deeps.  Well I did a few nights ago and was mighty surprised at what I found.  I was hitting 4k and able to sustain it unbuffed!  This is all compared to the boost Mutilate got after the 3.2.2 patch.  Check the link to read my story before…

I’m still interested to hear what some of my fellow mutilate Rogue’s are doing as far as Unbuffed Sustainable DPS?  A noobs gotta compare himself with someone!

What to do when your guild falls apart?

Events of the past couple weeks have made me start to get away from the game. We have lost our main players over the past week or so. Our main raiding group was tired of the casual style of the guild and when they invited other players to join them they were upset when they wouldn’t show up. This type of stuff gets under my skin also but in the same way it’s not something that will make me take off looking for another guild. I like the people in the guild. And the few that stayed behind are my best in-game friends.

Now that they are gone I am realizing that we are only left with 6 or 7 viable raiders for Ulduar and ToTC content. And I don’t see us doing more Naxx runs just to get some gear for our new 80’s. But we have added a few new players trying to fill out a raid roster. But so far it’s been a Fail getting capable raiders.

I love raiding and it’s the only thing that keeps me going. I pug VoA weekly but has anyone else ever dealt with the problem of having a good raiding guild who falls apart into a casual guild and how do I get back to raiding on a regular basis? I don’t mind Pugging but would rather have a group that I’m familiar with. A group that know each other and knows their job during a boss fight.

How many licks does it take….

to get to the center of WTF Blizzard was thinking when they made Tier 10 Rogue gear?!  My guess is Blizzard has a random armor generator, they take images of their favorite characters and NPC’s from the game along with pop culture icons.  The generator then spits out something and Blizzard says “PRINT IT”!

Case and Point;

Blog Tier 10

Insert 1 Loot Crazed Diver, The Road Warriors and one of those Green sludge things and this is what you get;

Rogue Tier 10

So when this Gear is released in Patch 3.3.  Go into options; Show Cloak, Do Not Show Helm and make sure to wear a tabard.  I’m old school Rogue, I don’t need all of this design crap.  Give me a Rogue with Black Sweats and a Defias Mask to wear and I’m good to go!

But here’s the good about Tier ten.  Set Bonuses, and they are some good ones!

  • Rogue T10 2P Bonus – Gives your melee finishing moves a 13% chance to add 3 combo points to your target.
  • Rogue T10 4P Bonus – Your Tricks of the Trade ability now grants you 15 energy instead of costing energy.

Hopefully you’re already using ToT everytime it’s available but if your not then you will be now.  More to come as the PTR continues!  O and my Rondel finally dropped off of the Black Knight so no more jousting for me!

3.2.2 Mutilate Boost

Posted in Gaming with tags , , , , , , , , on September 23, 2009 by Camron

Did a normal rotation last night after the release and noticed about a 500 point increase in sustained DPS (about 3500) with peaks around 3700.  This was unbuffed and is compared to the 3K I was getting before the patch, with peaks around 3200.  I’m not a number Cruncher so I’m not going to try to explain it but here’s some of the changes that hit Mutilate Rogues yesterday;

  • Envenom’s scaling has been increased from 7% to 9% of attack power per combo point.
  • Fan of Knives: The damage done by this ability has been reduced by 30%.
  • Master Poisoner: No longer increases the Deadly Poison application rate following a successful Envenom and instead now provides a 33/66/100% chance of preventing Envenom from consuming Deadly Poison.

My PvE Rotation consists of; stealth Garrote, Hunger for Blood, SnD, Mutilate, Rupture, Spam Mutilate until SnD is about to drop, Envenom

The whole idea is simple, keep rupture on as much as possible.  Never let Slice and Dice fall off.  When Vanish is available throw another Garrote on your target once your into your rotation.

The Great Authenticator Debate

Posted in Gaming with tags , , , , , , , , , on September 13, 2009 by Camron

I write this after reading yet another article on the Blizzard Authenticator.  First off I just want to ask what has brought this to such a mainstream issue.  Is hacking something new?  Buying and selling Gold in Warcraft is a huge business, and some of these businesses are and will always look for an easy way to make a quick buck with the least possible effort.

Blizzard is making every effort to make the Authenticators available to players.  Any one currently using a Blackberry or iPhone has access to an authenticator without having to order the elusive one in the Blizzard store, which are historically known to be available for short periods of time.  I see no reason why there would be anyone who wouldn’t want that extra added security to their account.  You spend hours and hours on these toons, why risk it?

That being said if Blizzard makes them mandatory and “possibly” includes them in the next expansion.  What reason would anyone have to complain?  I know tons of people and guilds who have been affected by hackers and key-loggers and would never want my work or character to be compromised.

I am very interested to hear some of the arguments against these.

/2 LF Chanter Agility to everything!

With the announcement of certain stats gone I started thinking about Attack Power and how that has been my only goal of end game gearing and enchanting. Not anymore.

Honestly does anyone understand AP anyways? If you could trade it all for agility would it matter? There is actually no difference. I trade out gear that I lose AP for if the agility gain is more and it has always seemed to up my DPS. For the first time ever I actually looked up what the stats meant. Every 40 points of agility actually add 1% crit chance, while also adding 1 point of attack power per point of agility. This is a great change. A simplified change for us out there who probably never understood the stat anyways. My questions stem from how are enchants going to change. Will current gear with AP automatically change to Agility?

Now if we can only get rid of these pesky weapon skills…

Only time will tell…
